Heaven & Ale in the Community

Welcome to Heaven & Ale in the Community. We’re a group of dedicated volunteers committed to helping the community of Kingstone, Barnsley, thrive. We believe that by working together, we can make our neighbourhood a better place for everyone.

Our group meets at Heaven & Ale, a community pub that’s more than just a place for a pint. Since our first meeting in autumn 2024, our efforts have included organising craft fairs to support local artists, cleaning up our streets with monthly litter picks, and revitalising neglected street planters. We’ve also brought the community together with events like our VE Day street party and created a book share to promote literacy and connection.

We’re incredibly proud of the work we’ve done, and we were honoured to be nominated for a Barnsley Chronicle Proud of Barnsley Award. But our work is far from over – we’re always looking for new ways to serve Kingstone. We invite you to join us and be a part of the positive change happening right here in our community.

H&A Community Volunteers Transform Agnes Road Park

Heaven & Ale Community Volunteers Transform Kingstone Park

On Sunday 12th October, a fantastic group of volunteers from Heaven & Ale in the Community teamed up with the Envirocentral Team Barnsley to clear the small park on Agnes Road in Kingstone.

It was a brilliant morning, with over 20 volunteers showing up and making an amazing difference. Our combined efforts resulted in a huge clean-up success:

  • 1,280 kg of garden waste cleared and removed.
  • 16 bags of litter collected.
  • The neighbourhood is now a much cleaner, greener, and friendlier place!

Barnsley Foodbank Donation

A huge thank you to everyone who donated to the Barnsley Foodbank at the Harvest Festival on Saturday! The event, hosted at Heaven & Ale, was a massive success thanks to your generosity. We were able to collect a significant amount of food to help those in need.

Special thanks go to Mandy for providing delicious food, and to all the DJs who kept the good vibes going with a fantastic mix of music throughout the day.

Suzanne Storey from the Barnsley Foodbank Partnership shared her gratitude, highlighting the real impact of your donations:

“Please thank everyone concerned in raising donations for us. The total weight was 160.5 kgs when turned into meals it makes 380 meals.”

H&A Community Litter Pick

Community-Clean-Up-Heaven-and-Ale-August-2025

Join us in keeping our streets clean! Every month, a team of dedicated volunteers meets to tackle litter in the local Kingstone area. We’ve collected an incredible amount of trash, and every purple bag we fill makes our neighbourhood a cleaner, safer place.

On Saturday 8th November, 18 volunteers collected 28 bags of litter. This is waste that would have remained on our streets for much longer. It’s a fantastic effort, and we’d love for you to be a part of it.

If you’d like to get involved, keep an eye on our website for the next date.

H&A Planter Clean Up

We’re bringing life back to our streets, one planter at a time. Many of the street planters in Kingstone were neglected and had become dumping spots for litter.

Our volunteers took it upon themselves to clean them out, plant new flowers and plants, and tend to them regularly.

Our hope is that this effort will inspire others to take ownership of their nearest planter, helping us to nurture and maintain them across the community.

H&A Craft Fairs

Step into a world of creativity at our craft fairs. We bring together talented local artisans and craftspeople who offer a beautiful selection of handcrafted gifts and decorations. It’s the perfect opportunity to find unique items while supporting your local community. In addition to a wide variety of stalls, you’ll also enjoy live music, delicious food, and great drinks.

We’ve held two successful fairs so far, and our third will be held on Saturday 13th December from 2pm! If you’re an independent maker or craftsperson interested in having a stall, you can secure a table for just £10. Get in touch using the Contact Form at the bottom of the page.

H&A Book Share

Find your next favourite read at our community book corner! We believe that the best books are meant to be shared.

Located in the back room of Heaven & Ale, our book share is a simple concept: take a book you’d like to read, and feel free to leave one for others to enjoy.

It’s a great way to discover new stories and share your old favourites with your neighbours.

Events: VE Day Street Party

VE-Day-Street-Party-Sprint-Street-Barnsley

On the 80th anniversary of VE Day, we brought the community together for a massive street party. With permission from Barnsley Council, we closed off Spring Street for the day and set up a long table right in the middle.

The event was a huge success, with fantastic live music and a variety of fun games. Everyone was encouraged to bring their own picnic, chairs, and tables to join in the fun.

It was a wonderful day that celebrated our shared history and brought our community closer together.
